[Japan Aomori Hotel Review] Return to Hotel JAL City Aomori: A Spacious Triple Room & The Ultimate Local Breakfast Experience

Returning to Hotel JAL City Aomori for a second visit feels like coming home, yet the experience offered a fresh perspective this winter. While our first stay impressed us with the hotel's unbeatable location—just a six-minute walk from JR Aomori Station and steps away from cultural hubs like A-FACTORY and the Wa Rasse Nebuta House—this trip focused on the comfort of family travel.

Checking into the lobby, with its warm hues and prominent Nebuta Festival posters, we were reminded of the professional and efficient service that defines the JAL brand. The availability of ample luggage carts and a spacious reception area made the check-in process smooth, even with the heavy winter gear and luggage required for a family of three.

This time, we opted for the Triple Room, a configuration that pleasantly surprised us with its thoughtful layout. Unlike many business hotels where an extra bed compromises all walking space, this room maintained a comfortable flow. A standout feature for modern travelers is the upgraded bedside connectivity. The headboard integrates a sleek control panel allowing guests to adjust the entrance, cove, and foot lighting individually, alongside a dedicated reading light. More importantly, the inclusion of accessible USB ports and AC outlets right at the pillow level means no more fighting over charging spots for phones and devices overnight.

The room amenities have also been curated to enhance the in-room downtime that is often necessary during cold winter trips. The television is a modern smart TV, with a remote featuring dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video, allowing us to easily entertain our second-grader with familiar content while we relaxed. Additionally, considering the dry heating used during Japanese winters, the provision of a high-capacity humidifier alongside the standard Tiger kettle was a detail we deeply appreciated, ensuring the room air remained comfortable throughout the night.

While the bathroom utilizes the standard unit-bath layout common in Japanese hotels, it is maintained with immaculate cleanliness and features wood-grain accents that add a touch of warmth. However, what truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional attention to detail in the amenities. The hotel goes far beyond the basics, providing a comprehensive selection that includes relaxing bath salts and a premium skincare set by Gioiello—complete with cleansing oil, face wash, and lotion. These thoughtful touches transform a functional space into a refreshing retreat, perfect for unwinding after a cold day in the snow.

The undisputed highlight of staying at Hotel JAL City Aomori is the breakfast at "La Seine," a classically elegant venue that serves as a showcase for Aomori’s local gastronomy. The buffet features an impressive array of regional specialties, but the absolute must-try is the hotel's signature Scallop Porridge (Hotate-gayu), a savory, comforting dish that guests can customize with various toppings like crispy wonton skins and spicy oil. The commitment to local ingredients extends from the hot food section—featuring stewed scallops and seasonal vegetables—to the dessert station, which celebrates the "Apple Kingdom" with homemade apple pound cake, compote, and refreshing apple juices. For travelers seeking a blend of business efficiency and local flavor, this breakfast is not to be missed.
